Why We Need to Stop Glorifying Hustle Culture

The dark side of grind mentality and how to break free

Scroll through Instagram these days and you’ll inevitably come across digital entrepreneurs bragging about their 4am wakeup times, jam packed schedules, and their laser sharp focus on output and productivity at the expense of all else.

Hustle culture — the notion that unless you’re constantly working, achieving, pushing yourself to exhaustion and beyond, you don’t deserve success — has become alarmingly pervasive.

The problem is, this grind hard, burn out fast mentality erodes wellbeing, creativity, relationships and our sense of ease. When we tie self worth exclusively to output, nothing is ever enough.

We end up in a restless hamster wheel chasing validation through more accomplishments, unable to be present to the meaningful moments happening right under our noses.

And though hustle culture promises freedom through amassing influence and income, getting caught up in the grind ends up being just another form of captivity.

Why We Feel Compelled to Hustle So Hard

In an age of instability and uncertainty, throwing ourselves headfirst into work and achievement gives us a sense of control and security…
