The sad doormat. Illustration made by the author.

Meet Danny, the doormat. He’s the friendliest doormat in the world. He greets everybody and yet they walk all over him.

Being a doormat is hard. You respect people but they don’t respect you.

You can be a doormat that greets people and wishes them great health and prosperity and what do you get in return?

Someone doing the electric slide over you. The audacity!

Danny has been a doormat for 6 years. He’s already used to it. He thinks maybe one day someone won’t walk over him. They’ll disrespect the homeowner’s carpeting by wiping their foot on that instead of on Danny.

That never happened.

Sometimes the owner will ban all shoes inside the house and Danny is left with a face full of shoes. That’s a lot of feet for a doormat to handle.

Maybe one day, Danny the doormat will turn into a human leg so he can stomp all over everybody. Until then, he’ll have to be the most disrespected friendliest doormat in the world.
