I Attempted “Joyscrolling” — Here’s How it Changed My View of Social Media

Like most, I’ve spent more time doomscrolling lately — endlessly scrolling for the latest worrying headlines and shock-value stories. It’s an unhealthy habit, I know.

But taking in all that negative news, misinformation, and toxic debate online left me feeling powerless and anxious about the state of the world.

I needed a social media reset. Then I started seeing the idea of “joyscrolling” — intentionally seeking out positive, heartwarming content when you scan feeds.

Could focusing on good news help offset the emotional weight of doomscrolling? I decided to give it a try.

At First, I Felt Clueless

After years of automatically looking for problems and outrage when browsing, I’ll admit positive stories didn’t stick out.

I almost felt guilty happily sharing a video of a baby laughing instead of the latest political analysis. Was I ignoring important issues that need attention?

But I quickly realized while injustice and conflict dominate headlines, there is still an abundance of good happening too.

I just had to shift my mindset to notice inspiration and everyday heroes instead of dwelling exclusively on trauma and tribalism.
